News
The fourth Hotspot from Roscrea took place on Sunday 14th August and turned out to be a very erratic race, due know doubt to the heavy showers that the convoy would encounter on the route home.
The day started very early at the NCC around the 4am mark for the basketing.
Again thanks to the helpers which are truly appreciated, all the birds were recorded onto the Tauris ets system in know time and loaded onto the transporter for Donny to leave the yard at 0545am.
Then Darren lit up the BBQ and cooked us all a few sausages that went down a treat.
Word came through that the birds were in the sky at 1020am and cleared the site after two circles heading north in a west south westerly wind.
The estimated time to the loft was around the 3hr mark.
It was nice to see Francis Cocorran and Derek OShea travelling all the way up from Carlow and they were telling me that conditions were very good on their journey.
We had a special visitor all the way from California who really enjoyed his visit to the NCC and remarked on the professionalism here at the NCC.
Yesterday we finally got the live steaming up and running for everyone to watch who couldn't make it.
Even my wife was watching it at home and credit it a great success.
At times the sun would interfere with the camera casting a glare over the viewing, but we will rectify this.
It was noted by several people who had arrived that they had come across heavy showers of thunderous nature that would know doubt break up the convoy and make the race conditions erratic.
This is what happened!
The first birds to arrive at the loft were a batch of 18 bang on time racing straight out of the south.
Any one of these could have won the Hotspot, but first through the traps was the syndicate of Smaybe-Smaybenot of Brian Derbyshire and to say he was over the moon was an understatement.
He actually told me he can now die happy.
Hopefully Brian this is not the case as we would all like to see you have more success here at the NCC.
The winning bird is a beautiful blue hen and was bred in Belgium by Luc Cuelman and is of van loon origin(The van loons were on top today).
Brian picked this one out when it came into the loft as a baby.
Definitely a good eye this man must have and will now have the bragging rights around the Larne area for his Hotspot winner.
Brian is one of the most dedicated lads that support the NCC and Sean would like to say, Well done Brian on your marvellous success.
In second spot goes to the loft of Burgess+Brennan who were only seconds behind followed in third by JHS with one bred out of his 3rd open winner last year now owned by Wayne Doonan.
In fourth open and racing for the first time in the NCC and very we'll, is the Men from the West of Karl Murphy and Glen Smith of the syndicate Cookstown Sizzlers.
This is the loft that at present is taking the one loft by storm only previously winning a hotspot and just missing out again for a second one. Their first arrival is the nest mate to their earlier hotspot winner and yes you've guessed, it was pooled the whole way to take home a tidy sum of £254 in pools alone.
Now I'm starting to think the Wise Men come from the West?
Finishing off the Hotspot prizes is the loft of Derek OShea who was up from Carlow with his good friend Francis. A nice pair of lads these boys are.
As you can see in the results there were quiet a few gaps in the arrivals and when shutting down the system we had 280 home from 334 basketed so hopefully a few more will turn in on the morning.
This was the first main breaking up the birds got and some had to use their own brains to get home and usually this stands them in good stead.
Let's hope next sundays race weather wise is for a better day.

Sean congratulating Brian Derbyshire on winning Hotspot 4 today.
